As a major initiative to improve the working and learning environment so that faculty, staff, and students can smoothly balance work, study, and childcare, Nagoya University has established on-campus nursery schools and provides financial and operational support for them. These include Nagoya University Cosmos Nursery School (Higashiyama Campus; opened April 2006; capacity: 60 children) and Nagoya University Asunaro Nursery School (Tsurumai Campus; opened July 2009; capacity: 80 children).
Each nursery school has an Operations Committee, which deliberates important matters such as admission selection, budgets, and financial statements in accordance with the committee’s bylaws.
As part of the same effort to support the balance of work, study, and childcare, Nagoya University has established an on-campus after-school childcare facility, Poppins After School (opened July 2009; capacity: 45 children), the first such university-based facility in Japan. The University provides financial and operational support for this program.
While service providers are selected through a bidding process conducted at least once every five years and operations are outsourced to a childcare provider, the Nagoya University After-School Childcare Review Committee has been established to ensure programs that make the best use of the University’s physical and intellectual resources. The committee discusses matters such as admission selection, childcare fees, usage status, staffing of instructors, annual plans, and financial statements.

Admission selection for the Nagoya University After-School Childcare Facility is conducted by Poppins, the operating provider, in accordance with the Nagoya University After-School Childcare Priority Criteria determined by the Nagoya University After-School Childcare Review Committee.
