Action Plan for Supporting Work-Life Balance for University Staff

Action Plan for Supporting Work-Life Balance for University Staff

The Experts Committee on Gender Equality Promotion has proposed the following action plan for supporting work-life balance for faculty members:

1. As a general rule, it is prohibited to hold a meeting after 5.00 p.m. on a weekday or at any time on a weekend/public holiday.

2. Department Heads shall establish an environment whereby childcare leave can be easily obtained, and details of that arrangement and a support framework shall be publicized.

3. For faculty members who are caring for children up to 2 years of age, Department Heads shall make appropriate judgments according to conditions in their departments about reducing working hours or excusing such personnel from some of their classroom and committee work.

* Faculty members to whom Item 3 above applies include both men and women, those in single-adult households (no spouse, transferred for work, etc.) and those with working spouses (including any who are receiving long-term medical treatment).
* "Transferred for work" refers to faculty members who live separately from their families regardless of whether or not they are receiving a transferee allowance.
