Promoting Women to Higher Job Positions through Support and Development
Nagoya University Leadership Training Program

Nagoya University's Retention, Development, and Promotion Program to Maximize the Career Potential of Female Researchers (the RDP Program) has integrated several steps to boost the career opportunities for female researchers and promote more women to higher-level faculty positions. Its measures range from research funding for highly qualified female researchers, research assistant programs, secretary-sharing arrangements, and leadership training and other career management support for female faculty members to the amelioration of long working hours and the study and adoption of programs that contribute to work–life balance through flexible workstyles.

To help prevent scenarios where the demands of raising children, caring for family members, or other life events force female researchers to abandon their careers, this component of the program supports the development of research environments that allow female researchers to balance their research endeavors with important life events.

This facet of the program provides research funding assistance and administrative support aimed at boosting the research skills and efficiency of female researchers. In addition, to mentally prepare female researchers for higher job positions, it provides leadership training to instill in them a heightened awareness or desire for improved research skills and efficiency and promotion to higher- job positions.

To foster the active promotion of women to higher-level positions, this component of the RDP package comprises a multifaceted set of actions that, under the strong leadership of the President, are aimed at strategically promoting appointments of female researchers to higher-level positions.
